In 1872 William married Sarah Ann Hunter (1856-1945) who was at that time 16 years old and had been born at Gawler Plains, Clare, SA. As a child Sarah Ann lived on a farm and her mother invited the travellers in for a cup of tea. One was Ned Kelly as a teenager and Frank Power the bushranger. Ned Kelly was doing his apprenticeship as a bushranger. 1868”
Not much is known about William Wilford until he married Sarah Ann. They lived at a small place called Allestree near Bolwarra (Portland) Victoria. They moved to a place called Powers Creek near Edenhope, Victoria where they opened a store with Tom Hinkley (Edward Thomas). This failed. They were very generous people and did not press for payment.

William lived 55 years in Victoria before moving to Gnowangerup with Sarah Ann where he lived for 23 years, followed by Quairading where he passed away in 1931 aged 84..
William and Sarah took to farming. Many of their sons moved there as well and were on the ground floor of the wheat land opening there.
They lived at Ashby Farm from 1905-1925.
